Solution: Provide PG820 floor grinder with DC5500 HEPA and Quest PowerHEPA 1400 Air Scrubber

Containing and eliminating construction dust while replacing a floor in one of the world’s premier food processing plants under a very tight deadline was the challenge faced by Cutting Edge Construction of Richfield Ohio in July 2015. The client’s demanding quality standards and schedule, plus limited fresh air were the parameters that Greg Mata, Cutting Edge’s president, presented to Mike Madal and Mike Harrington of The Chas. E. Phipps Company.

To prep the surface Phipps proposed a solution of renting the Husqvarna PG820 Floor Grinder and DC5500 Vacuum. A combination of the PG820 grinder, chipping hammers and hand held grinders were needed to remove a brick overlay. The vacuum system eliminated most of the dust from the grinding operation, but the chipping and hand grinding process created a lot of dust. Greg Mata wanted to exceed the owner’s demanding standards for dust and odor control in the entire work area.

He accomplished this by using two Power HEPA 1400 Pro Air Scrubbers from Phipps. These machines run on 110V, draw 12 amps, and can be operated at 900 or 1400CFM. The two pre-filters plus the 12” V shaped HEPA filter can meet the most demanding dust removal standards. In Mata’s words:

“The Quest scrubbers turned out to be a KEY COMPONENT of Cutting Edge’s success to perform the work. Not only did the units contain the dust perfectly, the work area was safe for my men, which is most important to me. In the end, we completed our work well on time, and our customer was very, very happy that their facility was kept clean and uninterrupted during their normal operations and production.”

Cutting Edge also used the available charcoal filters during the application of the finish coatings to prevent odors from reaching beyond the work area.

In all three of its northern Ohio locations Phipps sells and rents a wide range of equipment for concrete surface preparation and to meet demanding standards for indoor air quality during construction.
