Phipps Construction Grouts Used for Cedar Point Roller Coaster, GateKeeper

Challenge: Meet grouting specifications through Winter months to ensure March 22nd construction deadline.

In late 2012, A. A. Boos & Sons reached out to the Phipps Toledo branch for a product recommendation that would help them continue grouting the new Cedar Point GateKeeper roller coaster through the Winter months. The product recommendation was critical to help them meet the construction deadline of March 22nd, 2013.

Numerous products were investigated, some from outside of the United States, but the solution was found in locally manufactured ChemMasters Polytops mMa Grout. The benefit of using Polytops mMa Grout was that it could be used below 40 degrees F, even down to 10 degrees F.

A test demonstration was completed and confirmed that Polytops mMa Grout surpassed specifications and could be used to grout base plates and shear pockets. ChemMasters and Phipps were able to meet the stringent construction requirements and have material on the construction project site within a week.

Through out Winter, A A Boos & Sons was able to place 1,200 cubic feet of Polytop mMa Grout, meeting the tight construction project schedule, helping ensure new thrills for guests to Cedar Point this upcoming season.
