Since its founding in 1940, the Maumee, Ohio based The Andersons Inc. has grown into one of the country’s major providers of grain processing, rail car leasing, fertilizer production, and retail stores. The company’s recent strong growth drove its 2014 decision to engage The Collaborative Inc. of Toledo as architects and Gilbane Building Company of Providence, RI as the general contractor to design and build a new corporate headquarters only a mile away in Monclova Township. The open floor plan with extensive use of natural light and polished concrete will house over 450 employees on the 55-acre campus. During construction, The Chas. E. Phipps Company has been fortunate to supply many specialty construction products and pieces of rental equipment to The Spieker Co., Great Lakes Concrete Restoration, Valley Interior Systems, Mosser Construction, A.A. Boos, and other contractors.

To Spieker and Mosser we provided Stego 15 mil, a tough, puncture resistant under slab vapor barrier and Proguard Duracover temporary floor protection to help protect the finished polished concrete from job-site damage. In addition we provided Mosser with SureKlean 600, a general purpose, concentrated acidic cleaner for brick, tile and concrete surfaces. Spieker also made extensive use of our Allen and Whiteman riding trowel machines to finish the multi-level concrete floors.

Jeremy Aschemeier, Spieker’s concrete superintendent, praised the durability of the Proguard Duracover: “This material was a life saver and allowed us to follow behind the concrete polishing contractor and protect the finished product while the other trades continued to perform their work.”

Great Lakes Concrete Restoration's scope of work on Anderson HQ called for installing the Phipps supplied Carlisle 860 and 861 sheet applied waterproofing on the foundation walls followed by the Carlisle CCW 6200 drainage and protection board. The 860 membrane provides 60 mils of uniform thickness for below grade surfaces to ensure a long lasting, watertight foundation.

For much of the exterior walls, Phipps provided Valley Interior Systems with the specified A/V Barrier products, CCW Barritech NP, as well as the PolyISO board (CCW R2+Base w/5/8”FT plywood). Valley Interior successfully installed the A/V Barrier using a Phipps supplied GRACO 833 Big Rig sprayer. Phipps is very proud to have supplied products, equipment, and training so that several strong Phipps customers could put work in place correctly and profitably for this very significant Toledo area corporate headquarters.
