Hydronic Heating: The Key to Solving Construction Moisture Problems

Hydronic Heating: The Key to Solving Construction Moisture Problems

Posted by Matt Milos on Jul 21st 2016

Hydronic Heating Advantages:

  • Dry heat: Provides consistent, safe, dry heat to dry out building while heating it, unlike propane, which introduces moisture into your structure. Hydronic heating eliminates moisture issues, keeping the schedule on track. Relative humidity readings of 25-40% enables mudding, sanding, and even priming the wallboard in the same day. This system also allows for floor coverings to be installed much quicker.

Dry/even finish friendly heat aids in compressing construction schedule

  • Air Quality: Units are located outside of the building. No fumes lead to a safe work environment, LEED points for air quality and aid in compliance of ICRA policies. No carbon monoxide is added to the building, and it does not require bringing make-up air into the building.

  • Safe: UL Certified. Safe and fumeless heating system that eliminates open flames anywhere on the jobsite.

Hydronic Heating System

Low fuel cost, fume free. Here the heating is unit is being used as a heat hoard (temporary building enclosure)

  • Cost competitive: Constantly reheating the same air so it does not need to continually run like a propane heater. Hydronic heating systems are 70-80% more efficient than traditional direct or indirect fired systems, and consume a maximum of 3 gallons of diesel/hour to achieve @300,000 BTU’s.

Offers lowest cost method of drying a building to establish climate control

  • Quiet: Absence of burner and blower noises.

  • Multiple power sources and size options - Operates on multiple fuel sources (diesel, natural gas, propane) and is available in a range of sizes. Provides flexibility to heat various locations on the job simultaneously.

  • Increased worker productivity: With warm, dry air, crewmembers are able to work comfortably throughout the winter months.

Customer experience with Hydronic Heating System:

The construction firm Rudolph-Libbe used the Hydronic heating system to provide temporary heat to several construction sites during the 2015-16 Winter. This system enabled Rudolph-Libbe to meet tight timelines and budgets by creating a productive work environment. Other benefits of the Hydronic heating system were the absence of added moisture into the buildings, a safe heating system that eliminated open flames anywhere on the jobsites, and a working environment that was free from fumes and noise from traditional gas fired heaters.

“This system works so well we haven’t stopped using it this Spring because the quality control for ICRA (moisture control, no dust in the permanent HVAC system, etc. etc.) is too good to ignore... In summary, from a QC perspective these things are the greatest things since Man learned to harness fire. The challenge is selling the Owner / Estimators on the budget required to rent the units. When you consider fuel consumption and moisture mitigation savings these units are certainly priced right. Convincing the other, shall we say “penny wise” consumers, is another story.” - Rob Wissolik, LEED AP, Project Manager, Rudolph-Libbe
