Phipps Promotes STEM Education in Northern Ohio Schools

With technology changing as rapidly as it is, it is more important than ever to equip young people for the unique challenges of today.
Chemistry, algebra, and biology are standard to most students, but what about civil engineering? Web development? Virtual reality? Without a rounded STEM education - technology and engineering as well as science and math - students will be unprepared for the job market. Construction, in particular is seeing a workforce shortage, in part because too few students are exposed to construction careers. That's why Phipps is supporting STEM programs in our local schools, including Westlake High School's "TechMates Club".
The TechMates Club puts students in direct contact with STEM fields, including visits to construction sites! In 2019 the Club will compete in the Student Model Home Design Contest at the IX center. The competition, a part of the Great Big Home & Garden Show, showcases the work of students in building trades classes across Ohio. Not only this, the competition introduces young people to other students and professionals in construction. By donating building materials for WHS's team, Phipps is helping students focus on making excellent projects instead of worrying about supplies.
We're proud to collaborate with teachers like Scott Kutz to help young people see themselves in STEM careers. Good luck WHS Techmates!
